The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office has been reviewing the case this week, and had not made a decision.
"At this time, no charges have been filed," said Christopher Lee, a spokesman for the DA's Office.
The police officer, whose name has been withheld by The Sun because he hasn't been arrested or charged, referred reporters to his Hermosa Beach attorney, Corey Glave.
Glave said he could not comment on personnel matters.
"We strenuously protect (officers') right to privacy under the Penal Code," said Glave, who represents law enforcement across Southern California.
Colton Police Officers' Association President Rich Randolph requested an independent audit of the union's finances when he noticed discrepancies in the budget.
"As a result, indiscretions were confirmed involving one of our board members," Randolph said.
Randolph was unable to provide the amount of missing funds.
Union officials alerted police administration and other law- enforcement agencies after discovering funds were missing.
"There were allegations made against an officer, and they were brought to the attention of our administration," Colton police spokesman Ray Mendez said. "The officer was immediately placed on administrative leave."
Mendez added that
there are criminal and administrative investigations involving the officer. The union's funds help officers on long-term disability and go toward officers' legal defense, but also go toward community youth organizations and college scholarships.
