A glance at Jenson Button?s performance in 2012 Formula 1 season

McLaren driver Jenson Button is undeniably one of the most talented drivers in the field and has performed convincingly well in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.

Button is presently standing at 7th place in the drivers? championship with 76 points along with Romain Grosjean of Lotus. Moreover, he is ahead of Sergio Perez and is just a point behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.

The Woking based team had a successful pre-season testing programme this year and the British driver was very much pleased with the development of MP4-27 before the start of the current season.

He felt extremely comfortable behind the wheel of his car and took an inspiring victory in the season opener which was held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after taking a start from second grid position.

Contrarily, he could not pocket any points in the second race even after setting off from second grid slot due to an accident in which he lost his car?s front wing and eventually he came 14th in the charts.

Later, he came back really well in the third race and secured an incredible second podium finish after starting from fifth grid position. However, he struggled in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit and could not score any points as he came 18th even though he started from the fourth grid position.

In the Spanish GP, he faced difficulties during the qualifying. Although, he made his way into the third session of the qualifying but he could only score 2 points with his 9th place finish.

Afterwards, in the Monaco GP, he again faced issues in his car?s setup and could not pocket any points as he came 16th after beginning from 12th grid position. The same problems persisted in the Canadian GP, in which he again came 16th in the charts after taking a start from 10th place in the grid.

Later on, in the European GP, he showed a slightly better pace and managed to score 4 points with his 8th place finish after qualifying for 9th grid position. Then, in the British GP, he struggled with the issue of tyre degradation and the changing weather conditions due to which he could only secure 10th position.

Nevertheless, he strike back really hard in the German GP and secured an amazing second podium finish after starting from 6th place in the grid. Over and above, he secured sixth place finish in the Hungarian GP after setting off from 4th grid position.

It is to be noted that the Briton was very much disappointed over his uncompetitive result in the preceding race as he believed that he could have scored more points.

?I don't know really what was going on there,? Button said. ?The weird thing was that coming out of the first stop I could still see the leaders coming out of turn two when they were coming out of turn three so we were very close. Then we decided to go for a three-stop, but stopping very early and both times. Then I just sat in traffic and the traffic I was in was slower than the people I was racing against so I could never beat them. Not the best day so I'm disappointed.?

The 2009 world champion is surely one of the most capable drivers in this year?s championship fight and it will be exciting to see how he shows up after the mid-season break.
