Ditto TV, the online TV subscription service from?Zee New Media has inked a distribution deal with?IndiaCast, the content asset monetization?joint venture?between TV18 and Viacom18.
Following the deal, Ditto TV will get access to?IndiaCast?s content from 19 television channels, including 12 regional channels, five news channels, one entertainment channel and one music channel, for its online streaming service and video on demand services?on?mobile phones, tablets, PCs, entertainment boxes and connected TVs. Although, the deal period or the financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
Through this tie-up, Ditto TV subscribers?will now have access to content from?TV18?s news channels like CNN IBN, CNBC TV18, CNBC Awaaz, IBN 7 and IBN Lokmat, Viacom18?s entertainment channels like Colors and MTV and ETV Group?s?ETV Bangla, ETV Bihar, ETV Gujarati, ETV Kannada, ETV Marathi, ETV Madhya Pradesh, ETV Oriya, ETV Rajasthan, ETV Telugu, ETV Urdu, ETV UP and ETV2.
iStream Deal
In December 2012, online video streaming service iStream had?inked a similar multi-year licensing deal with?IndiaCast. Following the deal,?iStream.com users?got access to IndiaCast?s content library of content from the network?s 20 channels through?streaming, video on demand services and?Internet-enabled devices including smart phones and tablets.
Among the channels offered in the deal were Viacom 18?s entertainment channels like COLORS and MTV, TV18?s news channels like CNN IBN, CNBC TV18, CNBC Awaaz, IBN 7 and IBN Lokmat, History 18 from A&E 18 and the entire bouquet of regional channels from the ETV Group.
Ditto TV Launch
Zee New Media, the digital business of?Zee Entertainment Enterprises, had launched?Ditto TV?in February 2012. The service offered live TV streams and video on demand content on?mobile phones, tablets, PCs, entertainment boxes and connected TVs and could be accessed through Adobe Air-based desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and mobile apps for iOS, Android and BlackBerry. The service also seems to have launched?a native Windows 8 and a Symbian app in the following months. The platform was powered by Siemens Communication and Media Technology and is currently available in the India, United States, UK, UAE, New Zealand, and Australia among others.
With this deal, Ditto TV claims to offer more than 50 television channels, including 15 regional channels, 11 news channels, and five music channels among others. The company also claims to have partnerships with content providers like Zee, Multi Screen Media (Sony Entertainment Television), Sri Adhikari Brothers, TV Today Network, BBC, and Big CBS among others.
In August 2012, Ditto TV had claimed to have clocked 100,000 downloads since launch and partnered with the Indian Postal department in August 2012, to introduce a Cash On Delivery payment option for its subscribers, as indicated by an Afaqs report.
