Microsoft Asia-Pacific head moves to Australia Post

Microsoft vice-president for Asia-Pacific Tracey Fellows has left her posiotion to join Australia Post.

She will take up the position of Australia Post executive general manager for the company's new communications management services division, which combines Australia Post's mail services and eServices business units.

The news was first reported by the AFR.

Fellows had previously been the managing director of Microsoft Australia for four years. In December 2010, she was promoted to her Asia-Pacific role, based in Singapore. She will be returning to Australia for her new job.

"Tracey's background in technology and her strong sales and marketing experience, working closely with large enterprises and government agencies, made her the standout candidate," an Australia Post spokesperson said.

She is the first executive general manager appointed by the government-owned postal service, and will begin her new role in mid to late February.

Fellows' successor at Microsoft has yet to be confirmed, but the IT vendor said that an announcement will be made shortly. Microsoft vice-president of sales, marketing, services, and support in Asia-Pacific Alvaro Celis will take over the role left by Fellows in the interim, according to a company spokesperson.

Prior to working at Microsoft, Fellows worked for Dell.

This is not the first high-profile tech personality that Australia Post has snapped up. In late 2011, then Optus director of corporate and government affairs Maha Krishnapillai quit the telco. He then went on to join Australia Post's retail services team.

The postal service is making a big push into the technology space, with the launch of its Digital Mailbox last year, and has ambitions to resell telecommunications services.
