Boise fire crews put out blaze at oil change business

Boise fire crews were able to extinguish a flaming drum of methanol before it did any other damage to an oil change business Monday morning.

Crews were sent to investigate a fire alarm at an oil change business in the 8400 block of W. Overland Road just before 9 a.m. and found a 55 gallon drum of methanol in the pit area had caught fire.

Fire fighters got the three employees inside out of the building and used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze before it could spread. Fire crews did get some water lines out but did not have to use them. The building was not damaged by the fire and no one was hurt.

Boise fire crews did wear respirators while battling the blaze as a precaution, according to reports.

Methanol is wood alcohol that is commonly used as a solvent. It is unclear what caused the drum to catch fire.
